DC Restaurant Week Hits VA Neighborhoods

Luckily DC Restaurant Week is not limited to the District. DC Summer Restaurant Week starts tonight and runs through Sunday, August 22. Over 200 restaurants are participating, and many of them are in Virginia neighborhoods. Make your reservation today on OpenTable.com and get your taste buds ready for a gourmet, multi-course meal!

This 16th biannual DC Restaurant Week is sponsored by Cadillac and American Express. For all participating restaurants the pricing is set as follows:

Lunch: $20.10 for a three-course fixed-price meal
Dinner: $35.10 for a three-course fixed-price meal
Beverages, gratuity and tax are not included.

Community Garage Sale Coming Soon

The McLean Community Garage Sale will be on Saturday, September 11. Spaces go quickly, so you must register early if you want a spot! The spots go for $40 and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis; there will be a total of 50 sellers. The deadline to apply is September 9. The garage sale will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Business Bank Parking Garage next to McDonalds and J. Gillberts Restaurants.

Last Chance to Catch Summer Specials at Wildfire Restaurant

Wildfire, located in Tyson's Galleria, has been offering a special three course dinner menu since May 14 and this week is your last chance to grab the deal! The offer ends on Saturday, August 14. The special menu comes with your choice of soup or salad, main course, side dish and dessert for only $25.95 (or $39.95 for some menu selections). Drinks are not included, but there is 50% off of select wines!

Girl's Night Out at Bloomingdale's

Tonight is “Girl’s Night Out” at Bloomingdale’s in Tyson’s Corner! Come up to the YES Department on Level Two anytime between 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. This evening is all about fun and fashion, so bring your friends together for a night of shopping. If you spend $200.00 or more on regular-priced items, you will receive 20% off! Also, Bloomingdale’s is giving away a leather wrap bracelet to those customers while supplies last.

If you can’t make it out for tonight's event, Bloomingdale’s has another event coming up before the end of the month. On August 26, Bloomingdale's in Tyson's Corner is hosting an event called Fashionable Fundraiser, an all day long and department-wide fundraiser. Bloomingdale’s is supporting amFAR, the American Foundation for AIDS Research, by giving $3 from every $8 purchase to amFAR. The theme is “Look Good, Feel Good, Have Fun!”

Counterfeit Merchandise Sold in Local Thrift Store

Fairfax County Police Department, along with the United States Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Blazer Investigations, recently seized thousand dollars worth of counterfeit merchandise.

The investigations began this past winter with a complaint from a customer who was sold counterfeit goods from the “Unique Thrift Store” in the 2900 block of Gallows Road.  Shortly after the complaint, Fairfax County Police Department launched an undercover investigation and several search warrants were executed.

An estimated $841 thousand dollars worth of “Knock-off” designer brand shoes, boots, purses, sunglasses, DVDs, CDs, jewelry, perfume, and clothing were seized as a result of the investigation. It has been determined that the goods were manufactured and shipped from China, and once inside the U.S.

Local CEO Recognized as One of DC’s Top Female Leaders

Dr. Deirdre Maull, DMD, of McLean, VA and Maull Orthodontics has just received a 2010 Washington SmartCEO Brava! Women Business Achievement Award. Maull is one of 25 local female CEO’s to receive this award for entrepreneurial success and positive community impact. 

Dr. Maull’s McLean office provides orthodontic care for both adults and children. Her business possesses a commitment to high-quality care using the most advanced technologies and focuses on the patient experience by providing ample time with each patient.

MPAartfest Coming Back by Popular Demand

The McLean Project for the Arts (MPAartfest) will be held in McLean, VA for the second year in a row. The artfest will be held on October 5, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the McLean Central Park at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

The McLean Central Park will be transformed into numerous mini art galleries where guests can visit, view and purchase artwork from various local and regional artists and craftsmen. MPAartfest is free and more than 3,500 people are expected to attend this year’s festival.

Other features of the festival include the Children’s Artwalk, an ArtTent and performances by local and regional entertainers. Local restaurants and community groups will be bringing refreshments for sale and ample free parking will be available. In the case of inclement weather, the artfest will be moved to the McLean Community Center which is adjacent to the park.
