Metropolitan School of the Arts moves academy to Kingstowne; New Board Members

Metropolitan School of the Arts of Alexandria, Va., recently expanded its Alexandria/Kingstowne, Va. campus to include its Academy and studio classes, upon closing its Lorton, Va. campus. Alexandria/Kingstowne MSA headquarters now provides newly renovated space for its Academy, studios and soon-to-be constructed Black Box theatre. It also welcomed four new board members, including: Jeff Lovett of Motley Fool of Alexandria, Va.; Cos Dimaggio of Tauri Group of Fairfax Station,Va.; Kusuma Aralere of Gainesville, Va.;  David Patterson of Tech Enabled Solutions in Leesburg, Va.; Jim Anderson of Fairfax Station, Va. of the Anderson Company; and Peter Van Aartrikj of the Aartrikj Company in Alexandria, Va. Maureen Loftus, executive director of LearningRx of Vienna and Reston, Va. hosted the 23rd Annual Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce Stars event with 42 students attending from 22 Fairfax County schools for their positive achievements and significant improvements. More than 150 attendees joined the event, including Dr. Steven Lockard, deputy superintendent of Fairfax County Schools. Each year, the Tysons Regional Chamber partners with area schools to celebrate and honor selected students who deserve recognition for positive potential or significant improvements. The Chamber Stars event celebrates the accomplishment of students who have persevered despite significant obstacles or personal struggles.

BASIS.ed Tops School Rankings in US News & World Report and Washington Post

In rankings released yesterday by U.S. News & World Report, BASIS.ed schools were named the #2, #3, and #6 best high schools in the nation.

The rankings, which highlight top-performing public schools on a state and national level, had BASIS Scottsdale as #2 in the nation for the second consecutive year, as well as the #1 charter school in the nation and the #1 high school in Arizona. BASIS Tucson North was #3 nationally, the #2 charter school nationally, and the #2 high school in Arizona. BASIS Oro Valley is the #6 high school in the nation, the #3 charter in the U.S. and #3 high school in Arizona.

Carmello’s is hosting a Cakebread Cellar Wine Dinner, Thurs., Feb. 11. at 7 p.m. for $110 inclusive, per person at Carmello’s on Center Street in Manassas, Va. The four-course dinner will feature Cakebread Cellar wines that complement dishes from Carmello’s new winter menu.  A special Valentine’s Day dinner is also being served from Fri., Feb. 12 through Sun., Feb. 14 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., to include a rose.
