Soon-to-open BASIS Independent McLean Hosts July Information Sessions in Vienna, McLean and Reston,

BASIS Independent McLean is hosting several information sessions for potential students’ families to get general information, a curriculum overview, and meet BASIS.ed alumni. Events are available, July 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, and 29 in various locations in Vienna, Va., McLean, Va., Great Falls, Va. and Reston, Va. Metro School of the Arts Performs and Directs "Spring Awakening"

Students of the Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria, Va. are putting on their fifth student-directed and produced show---the Tony Award-nominated, Spring Awakening. The performance is on Fri., July 29 at 7:30 p.m., Sat., July 30 and Sun., July 31 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the 1st Stage Theater at 1524 Spring Hill Rd. in McLean, Va. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased online at www.metropolitanarts.org.

METROPOLITAN SCHOOL of the ARTS to PRESENT ALICE in WONDERLAND, JUNE 25-26

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria Va. students will perform Alice in Wonderland, an original musical, on Sat., June 25 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sun., June 26 at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center at 4915 E. Campus Dr., Alexandria, Va. Tickets range from $20 to $23 per person. Go to www.metropolitanarts.org to purchase.

The show will feature almost 1,000 MSA students in dance, music, and theater and bring to life the incredible adventures of Alice in Wonderland.

Everyone age three or older must have a ticket and a seat (age two and younger are permitted to sit on parent’s lap at no charge, but must not use a seat without purchasing a corresponding ticket). The shows do sell out, so we recommend purchasing tickets early. Tickets are for assigned seats and include free parking in the nearby garage.

In preparation of the opening of BASIS Independent McLean, (which is Tysons Corner’s first prek-12th grade school), BASIS.ed’s co-founder Michael Block will speak at an information session on Tues., June 14 at the Westin Tysons hotel at 7 p.m., located at 7801 Leesburg Pike in Falls Church, Va. U.S. News & World Report’s Best High School Rankings report has listed three BASIS.ed schools in the nation’s top rankings – at second, third and sixth place and two BASIS.ed schools as top STEM Schools at fourth and sixth place. Smithsonian Debuts “CrossLines”: A Culture Lab” May 28 & May 29 in DC;Reopens Arts & Industries Bldg

The Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center will debut “CrossLines”: A Culture Lab on Intersectionality” at the historic Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building Saturday and Sunday, May 28 and May 29, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., in celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Featuring the works of more than 40 artists, scholars and performers, “CrossLines” will host an array of art installations, live performances and interactive maker spaces. This two-day event over the Memorial Day weekend marks the first time the Arts and Industries building has been open to the public since 2004. The building will host occasional pop-up exhibits and special programs for the public throughout the year. Beginning June 29, Arts and Industries will serve as the marketplace for the annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival.
