METROPOLITAN SCHOOL of the ARTS to PERFORM SLEEP BEAUTY BALLET

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria Va. youth ballet is performing Sleeping Beauty on Sun., May 1 at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. at The  George Washington Masonic National Memorial Theatre in Alexandria, Va., at  101 Callahan Drive. MSA’s youth ballet, with leads Seemka Ogunfiditimi, MSA 10th grader of Alexandria, Va. and Elpida Voryas, MSA 9th grader of Alexandria, Va., shine in the ballet-rendition of the classic fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty. Ticket sales helps support MSA’s Black Box Theatre project, a 200-seat performing arts theatre to be built in the heart of Kingstowne in Alexandria, Va., providing local performing arts venue for students and local shows.  Ogunfiditimi will be attending a summer program at the San Francisco Ballet, while Voryas will join the Boston Ballet summer intensive program.

Alumni of BASIS.ed reunited this week at Tysons Sheraton Premiere to meet and greet potential students of Tysons Corner’s first pre K-12th grade school, BASIS Independent McLean. BASIS.ed alumni students came from Yale University, Princeton University, Cornell University, Brown University, Duke University and more. School registration is underway for Tyson Corner’s new school, BASIS Independent McLean. The school will be located at 8000 Jones Branch Drive in McLean, Va.

“It was exciting to see so many of our graduates, and hear about their successful experiences at college,” said Sean Aiken, head of school of BASIS Independent McLean, Va.

METRO SCHOOL of the ARTS YOUTH TAP ENSEMBLE PERFORMS for BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION at NOVA

Metropolitan Youth Tap Ensemble of Metropolitan School of the Arts in Alexandria, Va. recently performed for the Black History Month Celebration by Music at NOVA at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria, Va.  Other entertainment included:  poetry, Martin Luther King, Jr. excerpts, NOVA Jazz Ensemble, NOVA Community Chorus and more. In preparation of the opening of BASIS Independent McLean, (which is Tysons Corner’s first prek-12th grade school), Basis.ed’s co-founder Michael Block will speak at an introductory session on Mon., Feb. 22 at the Sheraton Tysons Hotel at 7 p.m., located at 8661 Leesburg Pike in Vienna, Va. The Washington Post recently ranked BASIS Oro Valley in Arizona the number one most challenging high school in America and now that  private school model is coming to McLean, Va. Carmello’s of Historic Manassas, Va. is offering a Christmas Eve dinner, Thurs., Dec. 24 from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and New Year’s Eve a la carte dinner on Thurs., Dec. 31 with seatings from 4:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. (Two-hour seatings are booked for parties of two to six people; larger parties have two and a half hour seatings). Complimentary Portuguese sparkling wine is served with all seatings. Late seatings receive party favorites if they stay until midnight. Children 10 and younger can eat free from the kids’ menu.
