Heather Swann is crowned MISS DC USA

Heather Swann is crowned MISS DC USA

When  Miss DC USA pageant director, Althea Smith asked me to be the last female judge for the Miss DC competition, I was ecstatic and of course said "YES".  I hadn't ever done anything like this before and the experience was a ton of fun.  The most suprising part of the competition was how much love and support the girls gave each other. Even though it was a competition, the sisterhood they belong to makes it more like a family than a contest.

Autism Society and AMC Theatres to Host Sensory Friendly Films This December

From Amanda Glensky of the Autism Society:

MC Theatres (AMC) and the Autism Society have teamed up to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities and sensory issues a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis. Sensory Friendly Films® will continue with a showing of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader  on December 11.

Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disability that affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. It often comes with sensory challenges, such as hypersensitivity to light or sound, and children or adults affected by autism may not understand the social boundaries of movie theatre etiquette, such as not talking during the film or sitting still through most of the show.
