BASIS Independent McLean of McLean, Va., starting its inaugural year, is using the opportunity to vote on its first mascot as a chance to teach the students about the election process, in wake of the upcoming, much talked about presidential election. A native of Arizona, Aiken excelled in his science/math magnet program, ranked at the top in the state in academic competitions, was an avid athlete, an accomplished musician, and one of 20 Arizona students hand-picked and awarded a full merit scholarship. He graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in philosophy and minor in English from the University of Arizona and earned a masters of education in teaching and teacher education from there as well.

Metropolitan School Of The Arts Honors First Graduating Class

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria Va. held its first high school graduation since its opening. Ten area students earned their high school diploma from the Metropolitan School of the Arts Academy, now located in the newly renovated, expanded Alexandria school and studios.  Students are heading to colleges around the United States, and earned $1.6 million dollars in academic college scholarships. LEARNINGRX OF NO. VA. DONATES 20,000 LEGOS TO AUTISM SOCIETY OF NO. VA.

More than 20,000 Legos were donated to the Autism Society of Northern Virginia by local LearningRx brain training centers in Leesburg, Fairfax, Reston and Vienna, Va., and LearningRx directors committed to trekking a 10-foot “LEGO® Walk of Fire” in bare feet upon meeting their 20K Lego goal. “We’re grateful to the community to help us support autism awareness and surpassed our Lego goal,” said Maureen Loftus, executive director of LearningRx of Reston and Vienna, Va. “Our Lego Walk of Fire was everything you’d expect…it was painful, but fun…the key is to walk quickly,” said Loftus.

ASNV provides LEGO®- based activities at various campaigns, but currently have to rent LEGO®s for these events. With enough LEGO®s, ASNV could have their own set of LEGO®s to be used for all of their autism outreach programs.

BASIS.ed Tops School Rankings in US News & World Report and Washington Post

In rankings released yesterday by U.S. News & World Report, BASIS.ed schools were named the #2, #3, and #6 best high schools in the nation.

The rankings, which highlight top-performing public schools on a state and national level, had BASIS Scottsdale as #2 in the nation for the second consecutive year, as well as the #1 charter school in the nation and the #1 high school in Arizona. BASIS Tucson North was #3 nationally, the #2 charter school nationally, and the #2 high school in Arizona. BASIS Oro Valley is the #6 high school in the nation, the #3 charter in the U.S. and #3 high school in Arizona.
