5 Juveniles Arrested For Public Drunkenness After Basketball Game | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
MCLEAN, Va. (WUSA) - Five juveniles were arrested and charged with public drunkenness in McLean on Friday after a basketball game between high school rivals Langley and McLean, Fairfax County Police tell 9NEWS NOW.
Hundreds of students from both communities were involved in a series of disturbances, the worst taking place at the downtown McDonald's, the McLean Patch reports.
Capt. Daniel Janickey, commander of the McLean Police District said on Tuesday that police were outnumbered "tremendously. We had three officers available and the crowd was being unruly," he said according to the Patch.
"You had over 100 kids in there (at the McDonald's). They just took the place over. Some were intoxicated. They didn't listen to management or police," he told Patch, describing it as "a community and public safety issue."
Patch reports that Janickey said he had spoken to both school principals due to the serious nature of the Friday incidents and ongoing disturbances at McDonald's, a gathering place for kids after games.
Four of the arrests for public drunkenness were at McLean High School, where the game took place. A fifth arrest took place at the McDonald's where, Janickey told Patch, police had to wade into an unruly crowd.
Patch reports that Janickey said police will conduct an administrative investigation into the incident.
9NEWS NOW tried contacting the principals at both schools to see if any disciplinary action was being taken against the students. Due to the late hour we were not able to reach them.
