Fairfax County to Conduct Tysons Noise Study

Fairfax County to Conduct Tysons Noise Study

From Fairfax County VA:

As part of the effort to transform Tysons into an urban center, Fairfax County will conduct a noise study. This study will produce estimates on the noise produced in Tysons, primarily by cars, trucks, and Metro trains traveling through the area.

Study results will be used to develop recommendations on what measures developers must take to reduce traffic noise inside residential buildings, hotels, and child care centers. These measures may include items such as triple-pane windows, sound deadening insulation, and other building materials or techniques. Developers will be required to reduce traffic noise inside apartments, condominiums, and homes to no louder than 45 decibels.

Local Animal Hospital Offers Children Hands-On Celebrations

Local Animal Hospital Offers Children Hands-On Celebrations

From Old Dominion Animal Health Center:

McLean, VA: Old Dominion Animal Health Center (ODAHC) offers animal-loving kids the unique opportunity to celebrate their birthdays in “real” veterinary style.  ODAHC’s “Animal House Parties” open the hospital for the children’s exploration of every aspect of pet care.  They witness everything from cleaning dogs’ and cats’ teeth, viewing a variety of exotic x-rays, listening to a dog’s heart and seeing it beat in “real time” with an ultrasound, and viewing skin cells under a microscope, all while being guided through the hospital facility by a certified veterinary nurse.  Parties are approximately 2 hours long and can be customized to incorporate the child’s specific areas of interest in the animal world.

Andre Agassi Makes Appearance in Tyson's Corner

Besides being a world champion tennis player, Andre Agassi is a snowboarder, a cook, “20 + 20 years old,” and a humanitarian. Agassi appeared today at Fink's Jewelers in Tyson’s Corner to speak about his charity, the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education. This foundation has contributed $150 million to educational initiatives to date.

Agassi played in his first professional tournament when he was just 15 years old. What is the first thing that comes to Agassi’s mind when he thinks about tennis? Well, first of all “physical pain,” he joked after playing last night. But what tennis truly brings to mind for Agassi is the word “grateful.” He is grateful for what tennis taught him about himself, and he encouraged the children to push themselves in whatever they do because it will make them better people.

Linway Terrace Park Gets New Synthetic Turf Field

From Fairfax County Park Authority:

On Saturday, November 5, 2010, county and state officials gathered with members of the Fairfax County Park Authority Board, youth sports enthusiasts, and neighbors to mark the completion of a synthetic turf field conversion project at Linway Terrace Park in McLean, VA. A ceremonial ribbon was cut and speakers reflected on the importance of partnerships and finding creative ways to meet the recreational needs of an active community.

The rectangular field, which had suffered from overuse before being converted to synthetic turf, now provides a safe, level, weather resistant playing surface that requires less maintenance.
