METROPOLITAN SCHOOL of the Arts EXPANDS ACADEMY; MOVES TO KINGSTOWNE CAMPUS

Students of the Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) Performing Arts Academy of Alexandria, Va. will see a lot of new changes at the newly, expanded MSA Academy headquarters in Kingstowne (Alexandria, Va.). With more than 40 students, the Academy now offers more space with 14,500 square feet, including seven dance studios, four music studios and a new black box theater that will be complete in January, 2017. They’re also building a new Early Childhood dance studio and waiting area for their youngest students and families with small children. More than 40 teachers and nearly 300 DC-area students were welcomed by Sean Aiken, head of school of BASIS Independent McLean, Va., who opened the doors to Tysons Corner, Va.’s first prek-12 school.  Located at 8000 Jones Branch Drive in McLean, Va., the 120,000 square-foot private school designed by Gilbane Perkins Eastman Design has more than 23 classrooms, as well as a gymnasium, chemistry, biology and physics laboratories, demonstration and reading rooms, full-service cafeteria and indoor and outdoor play areas. Metropolitan School of the Arts moves academy to Kingstowne; New Board Members

Metropolitan School of the Arts of Alexandria, Va., recently expanded its Alexandria/Kingstowne, Va. campus to include its Academy and studio classes, upon closing its Lorton, Va. campus. Alexandria/Kingstowne MSA headquarters now provides newly renovated space for its Academy, studios and soon-to-be constructed Black Box theatre. It also welcomed four new board members, including: Jeff Lovett of Motley Fool of Alexandria, Va.; Cos Dimaggio of Tauri Group of Fairfax Station,Va.; Kusuma Aralere of Gainesville, Va.;  David Patterson of Tech Enabled Solutions in Leesburg, Va.; Jim Anderson of Fairfax Station, Va. of the Anderson Company; and Peter Van Aartrikj of the Aartrikj Company in Alexandria, Va. Sean Aiken, head of school of BASIS Independent McLean, Va. is blazing the trail for Tysons Corner’s first preK to 12th school. A native of Arizona, Aiken excelled in his science/math magnet program, ranked at the top in the state in academic competitions, was an avid athlete, an accomplished musician, and one of 20 Arizona students hand-picked and awarded a full merit scholarship. He graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in philosophy and minor in English from the University of Arizona and earned a masters of education in teaching and teacher education from there as well.

Metropolitan School Of The Arts Honors First Graduating Class

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria Va. held its first high school graduation since its opening. Ten area students earned their high school diploma from the Metropolitan School of the Arts Academy, now located in the newly renovated, expanded Alexandria school and studios.  Students are heading to colleges around the United States, and earned $1.6 million dollars in academic college scholarships.
