CUE Bus Base Fare Increases by 10¢ Effective January 2, 2011

FAIRFAX, Va. — Effective January 2, 2011, the City of Fairfax CUE Bus base fares will increase by 10¢ to $1.70 per person. Only the base fare is affected.  Fare remains $1.50 for SmarTrip users.  Fares for elementary and high school students, riders with disabilities and senior citizens with valid ID remain 75¢.

Children age 3 and younger continue to ride for free, as do George Mason University students, staff and faculty with ID.  For information, call 703-385-7859.

ALEXANDRIA — The Tysons Connector - the free midday shuttle bus service in Tysons Corner - will operate for two more weeks with its last day of service Dec. 30, 2010.  After one year of operation, ridership was not sufficient to meet minimum goals needed to viably continue the service.

Tysons Connector began in November 2009 to serve area businesses, residents, shoppers and visitors within Tysons Corner.  The service was launched to provide travel options within Tysons during construction of the Dulles Metrorail project as part of the project's comprehensive transportation management plan.

Until Dec. 30, Tysons Connector will continue to operate at 10-minute intervals between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday within Tysons Corner.

After Dec. 30, those riders who use the Tysons Connector may be able to get around Tysons Corner by using the following routes:

On December 4, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. the Fairfax County Police- McLean District Station,
Virginia State Police, and the Town of Vienna Police departments will team up again in a
collaborative effort to conduct saturation patrols to detect and arrest drunk drivers. This
initiative is similar in nature to the Extra Eyes for DWI’s initiative held in May of 2010,
but in a more concentrated fashion.


The program will saturate the highways and streets in the McLean, Vienna, Great Falls,
Tysons Corner, Dunn Loring, and Merrifield areas with law enforcement personnel
specifically targeting drunk drivers.

Reminder: Detours Set for Thursday and Friday Nights

From the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project:

Interstate I-66 westbound at the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) will be closed overnights Thursday, Nov. 11 and Friday, Nov. 12, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. because of Dulles Metrorail construction.


When I-66 westbound lanes close, thru traffic will be detoured on to the Dulles Connector Road west bound, to Route 123 south toward Tysons Corner, to a right turn to the ramp to the Capital Beltway south toward Richmond. Drivers can then rejoin I-66 from the Beltway. For local traffic, drivers have options to exit I?66 prior to the closing.
