Smithsonian Theaters presents Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2: The Imax Experience, starting July 15 at the National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center’s Airbus Imax Theater in Chantilly, Va., and in 3-D at the National Museum of Natural History’s Johnson Imax Theater, starting July 29.

Mary Amons of the Real Housewives of D.C., who is in the process of writing a cookbook and possibly starting a cooking show, hosted a party for awareness and fundraising for Fran Drescher’s Cancer Schmancer Movement this past Thursday.

You may only know Fran Drescher from her character in The Nanny, but she is also the President and Visionary of the Cancer Schmancer Movement, which focuses on early detection as a cure for cancers.

“We are not the research and science, but our partners are. So for us, we use Fran’s celebrity to really look at what is in your day to day products,” said Laurie Meadoff, the Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Schmancer, which is based in New York City.

Maestro Lorin Maazel brings Castleton Festival to the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas

 

The Hylton Performing Arts Center is pleased to announce that it is partnering with the Castleton Festival to present three performances in the Hylton Center’s Merchant Hall on July 7, 14 and 21, in addition to the annual festival at the Castleton Farms estate in Rappahannock County, Va., held June 25 through July 24. These three performances will be exclusive to the Hylton Center, and Maestro Lorin Maazel, founder and artistic director of the Castleton Festival, will conduct each of these Castleton Festival at the Hylton concerts.

“The Hylton Center is honored to partner with the Castleton Festival, bringing the highest level of classical music to one of the finest venues on the East Coast,” said Jean Kellogg, the Hylton Center’s executive director. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to present some of today's stars and the stars of tomorrow in our beautiful new performing arts center.”

From the Town of Leesburg, VA – At 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2011, Frank Ruggles, formerly  an official photographer with the National Park Service, will be speaking at the Thomas Balch Library.  The lecture is free and open to the public.  The Thomas Balch Library is located at 208 West Market Street in downtown Leesburg.

Frank Ruggles served as an official photographer of the National Park Service from 2007 to 2010.  During his tenure, he visited and photographed over 150 National Parks, Monuments and Forests across the nation.  Frank described his work as a National Park Service photographer as his “dream job,” a position once held by his photographic hero, Ansel Adams.
