Heather Swann is crowned MISS DC USA

Heather Swann is crowned MISS DC USA

When  Miss DC USA pageant director, Althea Smith asked me to be the last female judge for the Miss DC competition, I was ecstatic and of course said "YES".  I hadn't ever done anything like this before and the experience was a ton of fun.  The most suprising part of the competition was how much love and support the girls gave each other. Even though it was a competition, the sisterhood they belong to makes it more like a family than a contest.

DMV Indie Film Festival to Continue Through Weekend

DMV Indie Film Festival to Continue Through Weekend

Looking for something new and different to do this weekend? Want to stay out of the cold? Well, last night I attended the DMV Indie Film Showcase, a film festival that highlights some our area’s very own filmmaking talent. The festival opened last night, but it will run through Sunday, December 5.

Come out any night this weekend at 7 PM to the Cinema Arts Theatre in Fairfax to catch several different short films, along with the feature production 6 Nonsmokers. The shorts will definitely get you thinking, encompassing a variety of genres and the comedy 6 Nonsmokers is a guaranteed laugh out loud.

Heaven Week?

It's my first year as theatre director at McLean High School.  Not wanting to disappoint, I think I chose the biggest play known to man--The Terrible Tragedy of Peter Pan.  Even though it's a modern take on the classic tale, the set is HUGE, the cast is HUGE, and the pressure to do a successful performance is also HUGE.

As the new teacher, I've walked in to some standing traditions.  The most relevant for this week is the students' coined term "hell week."  Now, I've told the students that we're prepared and confident, so it shouldn't be hellish at all.  I, instead, suggested "heaven week."
